When it comes to Mumbai and Western Maharashtra, Monsoon brings out the best of it.
Had there been fewer humans, it would have been definite heaven for sure.
The fresh rains, grass, and the smell of wet mud are something that the people must wait for months to experience.
The Landscape changes its color from brown to green
Irritating summer turns to a pleasant Monsoon.
The fresh and cold wind calls for adventures.
With monsoon almost here, here is the list of 5 Awesome places to visit during this monsoon.
Number 5: - LONAVALA
100kms from Mumbai
Ideal for a 1-day trip
The most heard off place during the Rains.
It can be fairly stated that it’s the most overhyped monsoon destination.
Since it is the closest to Mumbai and Pune and is an ideal single-day getaway, it's always overcrowded during the monsoon.
Be it Bushi Dam or Tiger point, it's super difficult to enjoy the view in peace.
The narrow roads often lead to Jams.
It's no different than Goa during the Christmas – New Year week.
Having said the bad things there are a few good things too.
The place is often covered under fog till 10-11 am and at times it would be difficult to recognize things within a few meters.
Fog, Water, and Greenery are the best things about Lonavala.
You may not be able to experience much of the water but there are a couple of decent waterfalls near Tiger point.
Places to visit near Lonavala
1. Tiger Point
2. Bushi Dam
3. Karla Caves
4. Korigad fort Trek
Bushi Dam – Tiger Point and Korigad trek can be covered in a single day if you start early.
Korigad Fort
The place offers a beautiful view of Ambey valley and is an easy trek.
It's not overcrowded, unlike other forts.
It was my favorite part of the 2-day Lonavala trip.

Number 4: - Mahabaleshwar
280kms from Mumbai
Ideal for 2-day Trip
The only reason Lonavala gets slightly more visitors during monsoon is that it's closer to Mumbai and Pune and the trip can be completed within a day.
For Mahabaleshwar, a single-day trip is not possible and is ideal for a two-day trip.
The places offer some beautiful destinations like Venna lake, Pratapgad fort, and itself being hill station offers a totally different experience.
Camping at Tapola can be an additional experience.
The climate is truly refreshing during the monsoon and even during the winter.

Number 3: - Treks
Monsoon is the ideal time for trekking as the climate is ideal and the sceneries are simply awesome.
There are more than 20 popular trekking destinations near Mumbai, ill list down I few that I have personally completed, based on my preference followed by their links.
Number 2: - Bhandardhara
165 KM from Mumbai
Ideal for 1- or 2-day trip
This has been one of my favorite places in Maharashtra, A huge lake on mountains, surrounded by mountains, giving an awesome view of nature.
Umbrella Falls is a must-visit during the monsoons.

Number 1: - National Park
I truly don’t understand why it is named after Sanjay Gandhi.
Very often we travel hundreds of miles looking to explore the best of nature when we have a small patch of it in our own backyard.
The place is best during the Monsoon, with the combination of small waterfall, river, and mountain, this place offers the best of nature without traveling away from the city.

Apart from these, there are a few more awesome places to visit around.
Matheran
Malshej Ghat
Kolad River Rafting
Tungareshwar National park
Pawna Lake
